Health promotion work teaches the importance of healthy living and helps employees to make positive changes to their lifestyle.
Clients can improve productivity, reduce absenteeism and help retain healthy employees by investing in health promotion.
We can offer lifestyle medicals, run informal and fun “lunch and learn” sessions and provide promotional literature, as well as helping you to develop health-related strategies and achieve company-wide targets.
Abermed’s health promotion team can also produce a variety of information about individual companies, such as “the average BMI for all deckhands across all vessels”, which enables health activities to focus on target areas.
Individualised reports detail your height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol reading, urinalysis, hip to waist ratio and smoking and drinking habits, and calculates your risk of having a heart attack or other illness.
Abermed’s health promotion system
Abermed has created a pioneering health promotion programme which produces individual health promotion advice for employees.
The system allows inputting of information about employees’ health and generates anonymous statistics so that health promotion work can focus on issues that are relevant to the population, rather than simply providing general health information.
The programme has been designed to be accessible from anywhere, so it can be used in offices, on offshore installations, ships or other remote locations.
Health checks are offered on a voluntary basis and are carried out by a medic or nurse, monitoring height, weight, blood pressure and so on.
The employee is then given their own booklet with a record of their statistics and personalised practical tips on issues such as stopping smoking, eating healthily or losing weight.
If necessary, it can be recommended that the person seeks further medical help through their own GP.
This information can be stored according to location, vessel, type of occupation etc, to allow employers to assess particular trends and patterns.
The system allows a company to compile a database which shows the issues affecting their workforce, and then implement a targeted intervention programme which deals with the key issues.
Individuals can monitor their own progress and see how well they have done if they are trying to lose weight or give up smoking.
