Travel Health

Abermed - travel healthAs our ability to travel becomes easier and the globalisation of industry increases, so too does the need for effective travel health provision.

Different travellers have different needs, and the transient workforce in the UK is travelling further afield, for longer periods.

Abermed has been providing a Travel Health Service for more than 20 years and has highly skilled staff who are fully trained in travel health advice and vaccinations.

All Abermed sites are designated Yellow Fever Centres, approved by the UK Government Health Department, or we can administer certain vaccinations on-site at client premises.

Abermed also operates a computerised recall system to ensure that appointments are made for individuals at each stage of an immunisation programme.

Abermed’s vaccination services are available for both business and leisure travel and with a growing trend towards more and more exotic holiday destinations it is an increasingly popular service.

So we’re fully equipped to provide a comprehensive travel health and vaccination service whether you’re a welder in West Africa, or a tourist in Thailand!

Health Advice

Our travel health nurse will obtain details of a planned trip and will highlight any diseases to which the traveller is likely to be exposed.

Abermed uses TRAVAX, which is provided for health care professionals and is maintained and updated by the Travel Medicine Team at Health Protection Scotland.

Our travel health nurse can then advise on what practical steps can be taken to reduce the chances of infection, what medical supplies should be taken on the trip.

Vaccinations

Preventative medicine is an essential consideration before travelling to many parts of the world. Although we are lucky enough to live in a relatively disease free country, for travel to many parts of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, South America and even Europe, pre-travel vaccinations and immunisations are a necessity.

Even for seasoned travellers it is important to check that their vaccinations are up-to-date for the country they are visiting. The list of requirements changes regularly and the period of protection provided varies from one vaccine to another.

As specialists in our field, Abermed’s occupational health professionals are well qualified and experienced in advising on disease exposure.

For expert advice or to book a vaccination or immunisation, contact Abermed as soon you can once you know your travel arrangements.
