Abermed has appointed a full-time psychotherapist as part of its plans to expand its mental health care provision. As well as providing a psychotherapy service to organisations with employees experiencing a range of difficulties such as stress, depression and post-trauma related conditions, Jamie Patterson is exploring the use of technology and telemedicine and the development of specialist psychological support services to the oil and gas industry. From his base in Aberdeen, Jamie is keen to utilise new technology and specialist software to enable the team to provide counselling and other psychological support to clients working in remote locations. Jamie trained in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy at the University of Dundee and is fully accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies and United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. Originally from Liverpool, he studied psychology (honours) at the University of Aberdeen. “I am delighted to be working with Abermed. I like having the autonomy and freedom to do creative things and come up with new solutions. The creativity of the organisation and the provision of a top quality health service really attracted me to Abermed. “We have the expertise and an understanding of the challenging work environments our clients may work in, such as the North Sea, and therefore feel we have something different to offer them. Also, being a ‘home grown’ organisation just adds to our specialist knowledge and appreciation of the communities we serve. “I will be co-ordinating the existing mental heath service as well as developing new business ideas for our mental wellbeing work. I want to develop cutting edge ideas and offer the best service to our clients. |
